Builders Report for 2007
Welcome everyone. It has been a busy year for everyone here at the village. A time of growth and upgrades to many our buildings and homes. For those of you who have not seen the Village recently, we invite you to come see the progress we have made. Please feel welcome to come out for a tour soon.
We got a lot of help, and support, from many wonderful people in the last 12 months, Many of them have been supporters of the Village, since 2001 here at sunderland yard.
The city of Portland did some exchanging of land that helped them and benefited us as well. We had 43 decks and houses to be moved. ( 10' x 12' decks and 10' x 15' houses ) It was a challenge for sure.
Our old common area ( 35' x 38' ) just wasn't that easy to be moved. It was 6 years old, well weathered and had a few leaks. It was pretty much a land mark for the village. There were lots of talks as to what should be done with it. It held 50 to 60 people for its weekly meetings. It had a dry cooking area, and a big wood stove to keep the chill off. For many it was there only place to get out of the elements. Many folks wanted to try and move it, but the way it was built that wasn't possible.
A few weeks into the move we tore it down. We were now faced with nothing but our trusty old big top tent. It too has seen better days.We saved what wood we could still use and piled up the rest for our next wood stove.
As the summer started we had to raise some money to build a new one. We started having yard sales. The idea was a hit. The village managed to pay its moving cost of the big (grade all) that moved the decks and houses around. We started a small fund for the new common area, Many of the supporters, along with villagers helped move all the small things and some of them brought in food, and hot lunches for everyone .
As the summer ended we had finished building 6 new houses, one group of supporters brought in new materials to start three houses, which were built on the decks we had already. Fall was now here and we didn't have a common area and we all were wondering what the winter would bring as far as the weather.
A few weeks or so, later a man walks in and said he wanted to help us build a new common area. He asked for a list of lumber and with in a few days a truck came to the village with new wood.
Its now the middle of Oct. and we started building the new common area. (20' x30' ) Buck’s Stove Palace Eastside helped us out with a rebuilt stove that was up to DEQ standards for our new common area. We managed to roof most of the roof and install the new stove all before Christmas Day.
It's not done yet but it's dry and warmer than the outside. We are needing some R-30 and R-21 insulation and 70 sheets(4' x 8' x 1/2") sheet rock (dry wall ) to finish the inside, and 75 sheets of siding ( 4' x8' x3/8" ) T1-11 .
We managed to get a total of 6 houses build this year, and with our goal of building that many next year ( 2008 ) along with a new Kitchen building, a new Thrift store building. ( 20' x 20' )
We got a few new raised flower and veggie garden area planed out for spring. This was truly a blessing, this year. Many heartfelt Thank you's to everyone who stepped up and helped out. A very big thank you goes to Budget Computer’s: Tim Anderson for his help in making the common area a reality. The list of people that have helped us over the year and all the ones that came out to the village to help us this year is huge. Sorry if we missed anyone . A Heart felt Thank you, to everyone .
